Hi there and welcome to Dollop of Dough! Here, I teach home bakers how to make impressive desserts that are simple and fuss-free.
Here you'll learn how to make a variety of bakery-worthy treats for breakfast, brunch, and dessert! There's something for everyone.
A Little About Me
I'm Megan, AKA the girl in the kitchen and behind the camera! I grew up in Wisconsin, where my love of food began. Cheese curds, frozen custard, cream puffs, and Kringle are some of my favorite Wisconsin foods.
As I got older, I struggled with a chronic gut infection, PCOS, and insulin resistance. In 2017 (my junior year of college), I decided to make my health a priority and discovered a love for wellness.
During that journey, I fell into a pattern of disordered eating and was feeling extremely deprived and missed eating the foods I loved. It's taken a long time to find balance, realize that there are no "bad" foods, and make healthy habits. I realized it’s ok to indulge in desserts, whether they be decadent or a little lighter.
After prioritizing my health, I began learning to bake and develop recipes. I had always loved baking boxed brownies and Christmas cookies with my family, making recipes in my mom's cookbooks from the 90s', and discovering recipes that my grandparents and great grandparents from Germany had passed down. I started experimenting creating recipes of my own and using more nutritious ingredients in some of my family's traditional recipes. I learned to cook, bake, and create awesome recipes through lots of trial and error with the help my mom's hand-me-down stand mixer!
While I started off baking nutrient-dense treats, I discovered a way to enjoy indulgent desserts in a balanced way. On this blog, you'll find decadent treats made with the good stuff like butter and sugar. I have a few wholesome recipes too since life is all about balance!
Some you should check out right away are my salted brownie crinkle cookies, rose moon milk, and baked matcha cheesecake.
More About Megan
I was born and raised in Wisconsin but currently live in Chicago, Illinois. I'm definitely a Midwest gal and have lived in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio! I live in a studio apartment with my two cats- Ezra and Julian. Between their shenanigans and me trying to bake and take photos on my coffee table, there's pretty much always chaos!
As I mentioned before, I found a love for health and wellness while I was in college. I've love spin classes and long walks either on the lake or just around the city. When I'm not baking, you can find me listening to Classical music (I have my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music), watching reality TV, antique shopping, or coffee shop hopping!

Work With Me
When the pandemic hit in 2020, I was in my last semester of graduate school studying music. With orchestral jobs eliminated, I knew I had to make a career shift. I was already loving baking cinnamon rolls and banana bread to fill the time, so I decided to fully lean into baking, learn food photography, and make Dollop of Dough something I could eventually do full time. I wanted to turn my passion into a career.
I'm happy to say that in January 2022, I quit my job and have been dedicating all my time to the blog and client work!
I love partnering with like-minded brands to create fun, beautiful things! I've worked with companies like Domino, Nutella, Simple Mills, Emmy's Organics, and GoMacro on recipe development, food photography, and sponsored partnerships. If you think our brands align and would like to work together, shoot me an email at megan@dollopofdough.com. In the meantime, check out my food photography portfolio!
