Brown Sugar Cupcakes

Simple, moist cupcakes made with brown sugar frosted with brown sugar buttercream.

These brown sugar cupcakes are soft and easy to whip up in minutes. The brown sugar makes them extra moist and adds a warm flavor. They have brown sugar frosting on top too!

Ingredients for the Cupcakes

Brown sugar, flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, oil, egg, vanilla extract, and buttermilk.

Ingredients for the Frosting

Unsalted butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, salt, powdered sugar, and milk.

First, mix the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl until evenly mixed.

Next, fold in the oil, egg, vanilla, and buttermilk into the dry ingredients until a batter forms. Do not overmix.

Step 2

Fill cupcake liners 2/3 full of batter. Bake at 350°F for 18 minutes. Let the baked cupcakes cool completely before frosting.

To make the brown sugar frosting, start by creaming the butter and brown sugar together on medium high until light and fluffy.

Step 4

Gradually mix in the powdered sugar on low and then add vanilla and salt. Mix in the milk and increase the speed to medium until fluffy.
