Equipment

Ingredients

Tajin Seasoned Rim

Skinny Spicy Jalapeño Margarita

  • 2 ounces tequila silver or blanco
  • 2 ounces orange juice fresh squeezed
  • 1 ounce lime juice fresh squeezed
  • 1 ounce jalapeño simple syrup homemade or store-bought
  • ½ cup ice

Instructions

For Salting the Rim

  • Mix the sugar and Tajin together in a small, shallow plate or dish. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a cocktail glass. Do this upside down so that lime juice doesn't run down the sides of the glass. Dip the glass into the seasoning upside down to coat the rim. Tilt the glass to make sure the rim is completely coated. Set the glass aside.
1 teaspoon cane sugar, ¼ teaspoon Tajin

For the Margaritas

  • Add the tequila, orange juice, lime juice, and jalapeño simple syrup to a cocktail shaker filled with ½ cup ice.
2 ounces tequila, 2 ounces orange juice, 1 ounce lime juice, 1 ounce jalapeño simple syrup, ½ cup ice
  • Close the cocktail shaker and make sure it is sealed. Vigorously shake for about 30 seconds until the shaker is very cold to the touch.
  • Fill your cocktail glass with ice. Do this by gently spooning the ice into the glass, letting it slide to the bottom. This will help keep the seasoning on the rim from getting knocked off.
  • Pour the cocktail mixture through a stainer into the glasses.
  • Garnish with lime wedges, jalapeño slices, and cilantro. Enjoy!

Notes

Jalapeño Simple Syrup Recipe: To make homemade jalapeño simple syrup, add 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 sliced jalapeño pepper to an airtight bowl or container. Stir and then let it sit in the refrigerator overnight. Make sure to stir or shake the container occasionally so the sugar dissolves completely.
Salted Rim Options: If you don't have Tajin, you can use cane sugar, coconut sugar, or sea salt. You can also combine salt with a little bit of chili powder.
Make a Pitcher: To make this recipe in a pitcher, I recommend stirring everything together in the pitcher instead of shaking. Salt the rim of each glass individually before serving.
Make Frozen/Blended: Follow the recipe directions and add an extra ½ ounce of lime juice per drink. Instead of shaking with ice, pour the liquid into a blender with ½ cup of ice per drink and blend until well mixed and smooth.
Make Ahead of Time: Prepare the recipe as directed without ice. Then, pour the cocktail into an airtight container. You can store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, but it will be best after 1 day. When you're ready to drink it, salt the rim of your glass, add the ice, and then pour in the cocktail.
